This was a distressed project before John Bowser was engaged as Project Manager. It was over a year late in completion and $6+ million over budget. The client elected to make management changes that included replacement of the project management team. John Bowser’s team’s objective was to complete the project in a quick and cost-effective manner. The project was brought back on track and the LEED Silver facility opened to the public in February 2008.

Description:

This 22,000 square foot facility included a 25-metre, 6-lane lap pool, diving board, swirl pool, sauna and steam rooms as well as a full-featured leisure pool. An indoor/outdoor waterslide, community room and 4,000 square foot fitness facility were also included in this project. As a result of cost savings and overall budget performance John Bowser’s team was able to add valuable ‘extras’ and return another $350,000 to the client.

Description:

This project was increased in size from the originally planned 25-meter tank to a 50 meter pool with a large, ‘themed’ leisure pool, two (plus 1 future) waters slides and numerous water play features including a wave machine. The project also included a large community meeting space, complete fitness center, physiotherapy clinic, food court and retail space. We worked directly with the City to develop the cost plan that provided direction and parameters for the design team. The project was a terrific success finishing on time and on budget.

Description:

This project consisted of the construction of two new arenas to replace the existing facility and arena annex. The existing spectator arena was extended and expanded. Modifications included seismic and code upgrades, replacement and extension of the ice slab, development of a new lobby, sports hall of fame, public amenity space, concessions and extensive site works adjacent to the buildings and to the surrounding lots. All work was performed while maintaining full recreation program operations. The project was completed ten months ahead of schedule and $10 million under budget. As well, additional scope and increased value to the building and surrounding precinct were also introduced. An innovative new feature called “Thermenex” was designed into the project and is modeled to reduce energy costs by over 50%.

Description:

The Revelstoke Aquatic Centre Project included the construction of a 6 lane, 25 metre pool, a waterslide, a leisure pool with a lazy river, hot tubs, a steam room and a sauna, changing rooms and operating spaces. The development also included some modifications to the existing connected community centre as well as site works and site development.To reduce energy consumption the Aquatic Centre was connected to the Revelstoke District Energy Project’s heat recovery system.

Description:

This project included a replacement of the 33-year-old rink slab in addition to renovations to the spectator area and improvements to the snow-melt. Moody Park Arena provides space for competitive and instructional ice skating and hockey to the community but is also used for indoor box lacrosse, floor hockey and inline skating in the spring and summer months.

Description:

This project included the construction of an 85,000 sq.ft. building consisting of two arenas, ancillary and multi-purpose spaces. The arenas have seating for 200 and 560, ten dressing rooms, two referee rooms and first-aid station and skate shop. The multi-purpose spaces include warm viewing areas, a meeting room, lobby administration offices, public washrooms and concession area. Metl-Span insulated roof and wall panels were successfully used which outperformed traditional standing seam roofs that often showed frost lines and sometimes allowed condensation causing rust.
